Guatemala has gained an international reputation as having one of the highest year-round concentrations of billfish, in particular Pacific sailfish. Billfish and many other sportfishing species are found in great numbers. Guatemala is the newest HOT destination for Pacific Sailfish.
The coast of Guatemala at Las Lisas where Isleta de Gaia is located forms a geant bay.
Currents coming West to East from the mexican coast turn back after hitting the coast of Salvador - this time, East to West - and create a natural eddy, rich in pelagic fish where Sailfish, Marlin, Dorado, Wahoo, and many other sport fishing species are found in great number.
The sportfishing fleet in Guatemala is in its beginning. We usually have the ocean to ourself !
Guatemala’s Pacific coast quite possibly offers the word’s calmest fishing conditions, particularly during the dry season which extends from October to May.
The prime fishing groundare only 15 to 25 nautical miles from the inlet. It correspond to the to the continental plate before reaching the large reef created by the meeting of the tectonic Coco’s plate and the deep waters of the Guatemalan Gulf. These edges have many elbows that create current eddies.
